I’m in the House!

Just doing my usual surfing through electro-house music when I noticed that Steve Aoki, the all-awesome owner and dj/artist on Dim Mak Records has a new single out featuring Zuper Blahq. I don’t know if the rhymes do anything for me (sorry Zuper) but the video is visually tantalizing. Very trippy and colorful where it counts.  Almost hypnotizing. The jumping and falling totally reminds me of, “That 70′s Show.” Oh, this is of course just a rumor but at the end of watching this video, I saw a few fans note that the masked Zuper Blahq is none other than Will.I.Am from Black Eyed Peas. Then I’m like, “yeah it does kinda sound like him!” I know the Black Eyed Peas last album had some heavily influenced electro beats on it. What do you know, maybe we’ll see some more from Will.I.Am on the electro scene. Definitely not as cool a mask as Deadmau5 or Daft Punk but who am I to judge. Hope I didn’t ruin it for ya. Enjoy!

So You Think You Can Dance

Please watch season five of the show So You Think You Can Dance and vote for my good friend Tony Bellissimo. I (Ryan) have known Tony for many years now and I am glad to see him finally get what he deserves.

I remember when we used to spend all night practicing to the music we love.   To make a little extra cash we would street perform in Buffalo.

Before he went to the auditions I sent him away with some fresh SHADESOFREDD gear.  So keep an eye out for the Blastman.

The SHADESOFREDD family is proud of him and how far he has come.   So please show your support and vote for him.  Voting starts tonight!

A Job Well Done!

The saying goes, “Any job worth doing is worth doing well,” and the Shadesofredd Dance Showcase 2009 was no exception. Even those that are “stiff and have no swing” enjoyed themselves (I love that part!) This event was just to let the public know what Shadesofredd stands for and how music plays a big role in our individual communities. Clearly you can see how important it is in your daily life and this just goes to show how those differences can harmonize. I think it’s safe to say the grass is a little greener, fresher and brighter on our side here at Shadesofredd and you might want to bring your dancing shoes to the next event (and make sure they’re tied up tight!)

Just want to send out a ginormous “Thank You” to Red Bull and Saraswati for sponsoring such an amazing event, Dj Ivan Diaz & Dj Stell*R for keeping the music flowing as usual, Andrea Tello (at@atellophoto.com) for the beautiful photos and Miami Swag for putting together this swaggeriffic video (I hope that becomes part of our pop culture’s vocabulary) who put together this short clip so our beautiful memory of this event can be relived and rewatched time and time again. Enjoy!

SHADESOFREDD Dance Showcase 2009

decades of dance_1

It’s that time again! Been a minute since SHADESOFREDD has thrown another dope event, you say? Our response to that is, “Good things come to those who wait.” This is going to be a memorable event which will carry you through the many different styles of dance and which decade they were birthed into. Don’t quite get it yet? Don’t know too much about swing dancing or capoeira, then now is your time to learn. If you are an Art Institute student just swing by (no pun intended) and flash your I.D. If not, it’s just $5. There will even be free food! Most of all, just prepare to be blown away with the variety of dance. I personally can’t wait to learn a few moves to add to my arsenal. See you there! Need more info, contact brendan@SHADESOFREDD.com or 678.918.0659

By the way, SHADESOFREDD will be releasing a limited number of two new t-shirt designs at this special event. So if you have been waiting for some new SHADESOFREDD funky flavor, this is the place to grab it before anybody else. Just thought you might wanna know. Can’t say we never told you…

Gone Fishing Mixtape – The Cool Kids

Gone Fishin_Mixtape Cover_FinalBeen hearing about this mixtape “Gone Fishing” for the longest time. And finally now the time has come. Actually since I heard about these dudes I been waiting for the album, “When Fish Ride Bicycles,” but this will just have to hold us down until that causes another earthquake. Thank you very much Sir Michael of the Rocks and Chuck Inglish but I gotta say next time give us some cough syrup or something with your music cause it’s pretty sick… I wonder if we ever shared this special moment with you… This was taken at the Cool Kids & Q-tip NBA 2k Sports Tour earlier last year around thanksgiving. That was a pretty good show for those of you who missed it. Some real down to earth dudes too.

Ratatatatatatatatatatat

ratatat21

Who doesn’t like going to live shows and knowing all the words to every one of your favorite songs? Okay don’t all raise your hands at once… Here is a trickier question for you though, what if there are no words?!?! Ah-ha. That’s where Ratatat comes in. You just gotta make weird winding sounds and “meow” when appropriate. The most amazing thing for me at this show was the jumping from one instrument to the next all over the stage and just playing their hearts out. We have all been to good shows and then of course mediocre shows but it’s only when the artist/s are really jamming out that you feel like you got your money’s worth. And boy oh boy did I get my recession’s hard earned dollar’s worth. Now please take a moment to enjoy one of my fav tracks by them.

Did I forget to mention that their videos are very simple but trippy? Makes your brain feel funny, I know.
