Its An Ultra Fest SOR Style!
Wow! What a weekend it has been in the MIA. First it was the Winter Music Conference mixed in with Spring break and now to end an amazing month the Ultra Music Festival shook the souls that crave house music and enjoy dancing to good electronic music.
For SHADESOFREDD this week was epic! On Tuesday I was lucky enough to attend one of the opening parties for the Miami Music Week. In that party I got to meet some of the worlds greatest DJ’s which includes BT, Hybrid Heights, David Vendetta, Sylvia Tosun and Alex M.O.R.P.H, whom I spent quite sometime chatting and networking.
After chatting for a while, I spoke to Alex about SHADESOFREDD and its philosophy. Alex was so attracted about the way we see life and our style, that right after the party he logged into his computer and visited Shadesofredd’s website…it only took a couple of minutes for Alex M.O.R.P.H to be instantly addicted to our brand. He emailed me expressing his admiration for Redd’s designs and asked us if he could rock Shadesofredd at one of the biggest music events in the world…Miami’s Ultra Music Festival!
On Sunday 3/25/2011, I was invited by Alex M.O.R.P.H to come to Ultra Music Fest in order to enjoy the music, the vibe, the sun, but most importantly to witness how Alex M.O.R.P.H would rock Shadesofredd while playing at this incredible event.
When I arrived at Bicentennial Park and walked into the “State of Trance” tent, I was in a complete shock. There he was, Alex M.O.R.P.H rocking the ShadesofRedd “I’m F#cking Amazing” shirt. As he was playing, Not only was Alex being filmed and broadcast live through internet to over 150 countries world wide, but he was being recorded for the “State of Trance” DVD which will be sold world wide. I felt so proud of our company and even more proud when people would make comments about how “sick” Alex’s shirt was.
Right after his performance, Alex M.O.R.P.H approached me with a huge smile and said the following quote “My friends just called me from Germany, they saw the show online and they loved the Shadesofredd shirt” Alex was immediately approached by fans asking for autographs and requesting for him to give his hat and shirt to them as a gift.
I couldn’t be anymore happy about how everything went during last Sunday’s Ultra Music Festival. We are happy to welcome Alex M.O.R.P.H to the Shadesofredd family and we look forward for him to keep representing the brand and showing off to the world what we are all about! Welcome to the family Alex!
Now for those of you who don’t know much about House/Electro music… who is Alex M.O.R.P.H?
With gigs all over the globe and an impressive array of highly respected productions, Alex M.O.R.P.H. (Germany) is one of today’s most wanted producers/remixers in the uplifting trance genre. He made over 80 Remixes for fellow artists and released more than 30 own productions as well as big collaborations, which all found their way into the record boxes of the worlds top jocks, like Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren or Above & Beyond, to name a few.
He always tries to show his versatility in multiple aspects, including a well-known radio show (Heavens Gate) and a stunning solo album called “Hands on Armada” Bringing the most upfront trance music imaginable in his sets, Alex M.O.R.P.H. is able to make a crowd go wild any time.
He also teams up with Woody van Eyden to perform legendary Back2Back sets the people don’t forget too soon – if ever… Even the world’s most credible magazine for dance music (M8 Mag) supported them with a cover mounted Christmas CD in December 2006, mixed by Alex & Woody. Furthermore, their weekly radio show Heavens Gate is broadcasted on a worldwide network of radio stations, such as Sunshine Live, BFBS Radio/Sky Digital or Kiss FM Ukraine.

Life of a Warrior
Born in Cupey, Puerto Rico of Cuban Father and Puerto Rican mother, the MC, writer and producer popularly known as Yeyo, is setting his mark in the world while creating the very best of Latin hip hop. His innate talent for creating rhymes was discovered at the age of 9 when he started writing poetry. At 13 years old, he bought his first set of turntables and quickly started making mix tapes. That’s when the vision of blending his words with beats gave birth to the passion for rapping. Since then, he’s been doing music. His poems are inspired and derived from his experiences growing up in the turbulent streets of Cupey, PR. Yeyo was the founder and one of three members of one of the first Puerto Rican hip hop groups The Shanghai Assassinz. In 1999, he made history with the production and release of the groups first single Viequez. The song was inspired and dedicated to the struggle that existed between Puerto Rico and the US Navy over military controlled land. In 2001 he produced and recorded the theme song for the award winning Puerto Rican movie 12 Horas. The need for taking his craft to another level made him move to Miami in 2003 where he studied Audio Engineering. In 2004 Yeyo masterminded La Conekta, a hip hop mix tape that united the best Latino MCs from around the globe. 2005 was a life changing year, he started his company The Art of Sound Group Inc. and built a recording facility where he is producing and recording new and established artists under his imprint. In that same year he signed a Deal with Epic records for his group **The DEY** along with his partners Divine and Elan and also penned a publishing deal with Sony/ATV. In 2007 he appeared along with his group **The DEY** in the World Wide Pop Smash “Walk Away” with Paula DeAnda which got him a ’08 ASCAP award for most played Pop record of 2007. In 2008 he toured across the United States and Asia with **The DEY**, was the first Puerto Rican to be put on MTV’s Times Square Studios Billboards, appeared in Locos por Juana’s single/video “Tu sabes muy bien (La Nalga)” which earned him a ’09 Grammy nomination along with the Locos Crew, won an ASCAP Award, was on billboards all across the US, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Phillipines, Singapore,Vietnam, was part of the first pop music show in the history of Vietnam, performed in a Mother’s Day Special for NBC, performed on Showtime at the Apollo, Sabado Gigante, Despierta America, Escandalo TV, MiTRL, , performed at Sean Kingstons Sweet 18 in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Lord have Mercy!!!! worked with Timbaland, Stargate, Swizz Beats, Trackmasters, JR. Rotem, Akon, Fernando Garibai, amongst others. If it wasn’t enough, along with his team of producers, he did the official 15 year anniversary of the Macarena with Los del Rio and placed Dead Prez’ street single “Pollitrikkks” off of their highly anticipated new album. Not a bad year!!! 2009 promises to be even bigger and better!!! Yeyo is an experienced producer with extensive studio knowledge on both analog and digital platforms. His mission is to share his gifts and experiences with the world through his music. He is set to release his first solo project with the ‘Life of a Warrior’ (EP) which will open the way for his Spanish and English language albums that are scheduled to drop in 2010. I’m in the House!
Just doing my usual surfing through electro-house music when I noticed that Steve Aoki, the all-awesome owner and dj/artist on Dim Mak Records has a new single out featuring Zuper Blahq. I don’t know if the rhymes do anything for me (sorry Zuper) but the video is visually tantalizing. Very trippy and colorful where it counts. Almost hypnotizing. The jumping and falling totally reminds me of, “That 70′s Show.” Oh, this is of course just a rumor but at the end of watching this video, I saw a few fans note that the masked Zuper Blahq is none other than Will.I.Am from Black Eyed Peas. Then I’m like, “yeah it does kinda sound like him!” I know the Black Eyed Peas last album had some heavily influenced electro beats on it. What do you know, maybe we’ll see some more from Will.I.Am on the electro scene. Definitely not as cool a mask as Deadmau5 or Daft Punk but who am I to judge. Hope I didn’t ruin it for ya. Enjoy!

Deadmau5' awesome mask

Daft Punk's even more awesomer robot masks
Super Fiasco Bros.
Every now and again I get tired of the rap music that is produced in the industry. When this happens I gotta look back to my main staples in rap, which I won’t list now but this dude is definitely one of ‘em. He’s probably the most interesting rapper at the moment worth listening to. Always some new way to look at his euphamisms and wordplay. Thank you Lupe! I was really in search of his new single, Shining Down featuring Matthew Santos when I stumbled upon it. There are a few familiar songs on here like Commercial, and also Me And My Sneaker, where Lupe raps over an A-Trak beat also known as Mastered. This song originally had Kid Cudi rapping over it and Lupe’s version wasn’t cleared in time for it’s release. I love the cover art for this mixtape by the way, it works well as a great concept with the name and the photo of Lupe, which was picked up from a Complex photoshoot (August/September 2008 issue to be exact!) Is it just me or is he posing like the Blastman? Looks like people are catching on! Now let’s just enjoy this dude’s creativity and not think about his threat to retire after the next album. Oh! Might I add, the last song (bonus track) is a definite banger although it’s recycled; Superstar lyrics matched up on Kid Cudi’s Day ‘N Nite… Click here for the download.
Gone Fishing Mixtape – The Cool Kids
Been hearing about this mixtape “Gone Fishing” for the longest time. And finally now the time has come. Actually since I heard about these dudes I been waiting for the album, “When Fish Ride Bicycles,” but this will just have to hold us down until that causes another earthquake. Thank you very much Sir Michael of the Rocks and Chuck Inglish but I gotta say next time give us some cough syrup or something with your music cause it’s pretty sick… I wonder if we ever shared this special moment with you… This was taken at the Cool Kids & Q-tip NBA 2k Sports Tour earlier last year around thanksgiving. That was a pretty good show for those of you who missed it. Some real down to earth dudes too.

Dat Kid from Cleveland – Kid Cudi
Just browsing the net and found this mixtape out there. Thought there might be some equally eagerly awaiting fans that would love this as much as I do. It’s like Christmas in April! Click here to download the mixtape. Particularly love the track “Switchin Lanes.” Not to take anything away from the Cudi but I am just curious as to why more rap artists don’t collaborate over electronic beats. The beat for the last song on this mixtape, “Can I Be” is taken from LCD Soundsystem’s “Someone Great.”

Oh, here is also a bonkers video for Buggin. Saw this a few weeks ago on this other blog which I also frequent, ChuckNuchuck’s Galaxy and didn’t really know where it came from. Pretty original video though and who doesn’t love a sense of humour? It’s nice to see that people are embracing the martian.
Ratatatatatatatatatatat

Who doesn’t like going to live shows and knowing all the words to every one of your favorite songs? Okay don’t all raise your hands at once… Here is a trickier question for you though, what if there are no words?!?! Ah-ha. That’s where Ratatat comes in. You just gotta make weird winding sounds and “meow” when appropriate. The most amazing thing for me at this show was the jumping from one instrument to the next all over the stage and just playing their hearts out. We have all been to good shows and then of course mediocre shows but it’s only when the artist/s are really jamming out that you feel like you got your money’s worth. And boy oh boy did I get my recession’s hard earned dollar’s worth. Now please take a moment to enjoy one of my fav tracks by them.
Did I forget to mention that their videos are very simple but trippy? Makes your brain feel funny, I know.
Aboveground!
Stell*R, our favorite dj’s favorite dj has blessed us with a new house session mix. Download it here to get amped up for this month’s festivities. Put it on your iPod, burn it to a disc, give it to your girlfriend and tell her you made it or just dance to it like nobody’s watching, but make sure to put on a blastman first. Thanks Stell*R! Keep up the good work man, nuff respect!
You Don’t Need Me – Bishop feat. Casely
If you don’t already know how hard Casely has been working, then it’s time to pay some attention. I don’t even think it’s humanly possible to have a smoother voice than this dude but good luck trying. Going black and white was definitely a good look for this video cause the colors that jump out at you, really stick in your head and make it hard to forget. I definitely won’t forget it and how being Fresh 25/7 should look… Check out some more of J. Young’s videos here… Of course you know that Casely’s debut album, 1985 is about to drop, right? And when it does, I’m ready to party like its 1985 for the next twenty-something years. Be sure to check my dude, Casely cause quality music like his doesn’t show up every day.
Dorks, Morons, Geeks!
Look out for these guys man! Another fresh group from South Florida on the up and up. They have been “Overload-ing” for a while now and just shot a video for the song “Skyhigh” and it just might be stuck in your head for awhi-iiiile! If you look closely you might be able to catch a glimpse of a blastman running off into the sunset… Another pair of well dressed young men doing their thing with some funk and freshness. Cheers gentlemen! Check em out on myspace.

Arrivéderci was Arrivé-mazing!
Last night one of my boys, Gio invited me out to see a new band from outta Florida called Arrivederci at Automatic Slims. I had just come home from a long day at work and an even longer night before and wasn’t really feeling like it but he has one of the best ears for music and it was in my backyard so I found it hard to say no. Nonetheless, I was really impressed by these guys. They have a great style and are really energetic. Great live performance guys. Can’t wait to see you kill it again!!
